After recent doctor visits, my husband was put on statins for high cholesterol and I was told to exercise to better manage my weight. My husband developed muscle pain and we knew statins were to blame. I went searching for some answers and I found Inger. She shared with us the truth about cholesterol, about why it’s an indicator of inflammation in the body and that forcing the number down without addressing the cause is not going to improve his health. She also shared the shocking facts about statins: that they are not helpful unless you have already had a heart attack and are in danger of another and that they can cause serious health issues, often permanent. Thankfully, we learned this before my husband’s muscle pain became more serious.
Inger gave us information we could take to the doctor and my husband went back with a plan to change his diet, supplement with omega 3s and get off statins. He was re-tested and his cholesterol was in the normal and healthy range and he will never take a statin again!
Inger also helped me start an exercise program and showed me that not all sugar is the same. I learned that the excessive amounts of fructose I was consuming were altering my satiety signals and could lead me down the path to diabetes. I was eating too much because I didn’t know I was full! She also showed me that excess fructose is one of the leading causes of high blood pressure, something I’ve been struggling with for awhile. Understanding the difference between glucose and fructose and learning what to eat has changed my life and my health.
